#6 Always Deliver on Time

Most people do not even like getting their pizza delivered late, much less online entrepreneurs who’s time is valuable and limited.

If you say you’ll do the job in 7 days, make sure it’s completed in 7 days. ALWAYS deliver by the deadline.

Should a situation arise where you need more time, contact the client and ask for an extension. Do not quietly exceed the deadline without saying a word or you’ll lose their trust.

Sometimes you may be getting more work than you can handle. At times like these, you should either pause your gigs or raise your rates dramatically. This will immediately weed out most clients, and only those willing to pay your higher rates will hire you.

So, you’ll get less work and earn more money – and also have more time to complete your current projects without drowning in new jobs.

When you’ve cleared the backlog, you can resume your old prices – or if you’re still getting steady work, you can maintain the current higher rates.

#7 Get Used to Rejection

Getting rejected is part of the game. Your skin needs to be thicker than the hide on an elephant’s behind.

Even if you bid on 20 gigs and get rejected 20 times, keep going. Improve your pitch and keep bidding. This is a numbers game. Sooner or later, you will get hired. Successful freelancers reject rejection and don’t let it get to them.

You’ll also want to have gigs on platforms like Fiverr and Legiit so that people can find and choose you… rather than you always looking for work. This will help to increase your chances of getting work without you having to bid excessively.

#8  Don’t Quit Your Day Job

Never count your chickens before they’re hatched. Even if you detest your day job, clever financial planning and preparation is crucial before striking it out on your own.

Keep doing your freelancing on the side until you have 3-6 months’ worth of expenses saved up to cover emergencies. Then do the math and see how much you’re earning from your writing.

You’ll want to set a goal of earning 1.5X to 2X your current salary from your freelance writing. If you can do that, you’re ready to quit. Let’s not forget, your current employer might have 401(k) match contributions and other benefits such as dental, etc.

So, you definitely want to earn substantially more before you hand in your resignation and have the last laugh.

#9 Have Awesome Samples

If you have your own website, you’ll want to have a link to a page where there are samples of your writing. Or you may wish to point the potential client to your previous clients’ websites or places where your content is being used.

This is further social proof and also gives the potential client an idea of your writing style and what to expect.

Amateur freelancers envy the competition. Astute freelancers study them… model them… and achieve success.

You’ll want to pay attention to the way successful freelance writers on the platforms write their gigs. There will be much you can learn.
